This year’s birthday was one to remember, with a Broadway theme and singing (and/or belting) throughout the night! I had an absolutely wonderful time.
Games can be fun, and of course I needed one that involved music. If you’ve ever seen the Disney challenge on YouTube, I modeled my activity after that. The way it works: two teams each send one representative forward. They hear a song for ten seconds and have to name either the song or the musical, first one to do so wins a point. The team with the most points wins! It moved quickly and everyone had a lot of fun. The winning team got small bags of candy as their prize.
The food included, clockwise from the top left:
- Audrey II Fruit Salad (Little Shop of Horrors)
- Greens, greens, nothing but greens! Salad (Into the Woods)
- A Little Priest cherry pie (Sweeney Todd)
- The Grey Stuff (Beauty and the Beast)
And of course, I had to pay homage to the most popular musical currently blowing everyone’s minds, Hamilton. Luckily my roommate had gotten dueling shot glasses for Christmas, and it was easy to create a game for it.
The costume winners of the night were Beauty and the Beast, who did an absolutely amazing job.
My boyfriend and I, below, dressed up as Monty and Phoebe from A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, a recently released musical that I saw last year and absolutely loved. As you can see at the top of the post, several people came dressed as Grease characters.
I had a wonderful time seeing and singing with my friends, and a great birthday! I am starting an events company focused on nerdy and geeky themed events, and I considered this party a “trial run” of sorts, and it was very successful! Keep an eye out for more coming about the new company, Geeky Gatherings!
